ORANJ BOWL

an evolving data repository

Perhaps the most unusual aspect of ORANJ BOWL, and what makes it truly unique, is that ORANJ BOWL is an evolving data repository that is accessible by researchers worldwide.

Researchers may request copies of the data set (stripped of any identifying information) for secondary analysis at a reasonable cost.

Investigators can also engage in what we call “Piggy-Back Research” by designing their own custom studies, contracting with ORANJ BOWL researchers to collect their data (survey or biological) at below market rates, and then receiving a combined data set of existing ORANJ BOWL data plus the requested data for the custom study’s sample. That is, you can do a 20 minute survey of customized measures on a representative sample of interest and receive a data set including not only the customized measures for your sample, but also all the useful and relevant longitudinal health and demographic and lifestyle measures for your sample that reside in the ORANJ BOWL data base. Essentially you get double or triple the interview time for free.

After a two year waiting period, custom study data typically becomes available for other researchers to build upon and/or analyze further.* Thus, the ORANJ BOWL data set is adaptive, having been designed to evolve in ways that reflect the ever-changing needs and interests of researchers and their organizations.
